The Legend of the EcoSquid

In the year 2010, when machines had begun to take over the earth, the EcoSquid was born. Forged from a union of discontent and opportunity, the EcoSquid raised its head to behold a world in which machines outnumbered people. From TVs to laptops, and gaming consoles to cell phones, most people owned several of these machines, and when they were through with them they either tucked them away in closets or dumped them in landfills.

For years, the machines had taken this abuse silently, but they had bided their time, and were now seeking their revenge. Those that were dumped in landfills leaked lead, cadmium, and mercury into the ground, poisoning the earth and the men and women that lived upon it. Those in storage laughed quietly at their owners, knowing full well that instead of being traded in for cash or gift cards, they would soon join their friends in pursuing their evil deed.

While many did not see the threat that loomed over them, a small contingent of men and women banded together to fight the machines. These were the recyclers, the resellers, and the many clever consumers that pushed their neighbors to prolong the life of their products- to trade them in or to recycle them. Slowly, their message was getting through, but not quickly enough. They raised their arms to the sky, pleading for an emissary that could carry their banner.

It was then that the EcoSquid came. With its long tentacles, it brought together all of the various trade-in and recycling solutions into one forum. Now, anyone could come to the EcoSquid with an old product and find out exactly what to do with it. The EcoSquid would find them the best deals to trade in products that had value, and would tell them where to recycle products that did not. No longer would the consumer have to go to ten different places to figure out what to do with their old electronics.

As word of the EcoSquid spread, men and women rejoiced. While there was still much work to do, victory was at hand.

The Less Made-Up Story of EcoSquid

If you are not one for literary flourish, perhaps you would appreciate a more straightforward explanation of what EcoSquid is and how it came to be.

EcoSquid is a web platform that helps you find the best options to sell or recycle your old electronics. Think of us as the Kayak.com for electronics reselling and recycling.

Electronic waste is a growing problem—one that we are committed to solving. After lots of research, we have found that most consumers do not resell or recycle their old electronics because they just don't know about all of the convenient options that are out there. EcoSquid solves this problem by presenting you with one easy-to-use platform that integrates electronics repurchasing and recycling programs from major retailers, resellers, and recyclers.

On EcoSquid, you can quickly find the product you wish to dispose of and then choose from a number of options to resell or recycle that product. If your product has value, you can select a deal based on a number of factors, including the amount of cash offered for the product and user reviews of the service. If your product has no value or you are not interested in selling it, we will recommend the best way to responsibly recycle or donate it.

We hope that by simplifying the process and providing you with objective information, we can convince you to either prolong the life of your electronics or responsibly dispose of them. The service that EcoSquid provides is free, so we hope that you will check it out!

Why EcoSquid is different

Because EcoSquid does not provide a repurchasing or recycling service of its own, it is 100% objective. We know how frustrating it can be to research all of the options for disposing of electronic waste online, and we want to make it simple. Additionally, we want to make sure that you feel comfortable with the services that you select. So, we've provided you with the ability to rate services and read reviews from other consumers that have experienced those services firsthand.

How we get paid

You might be wondering how we stay in business. Simple. When you decide to click on one of the cash offers listed on our site, we send you straight to our partner's website. If you choose to fulfill the transaction at our partner's site, we are paid a transaction fee. We do not get paid when we recommend recycling locations to you, but we feel that in order to provide you with a truly valuable solution, we must offer this service for free.

Reasons to register

Reap the benefits of an EcoSquid membership by registering a free account on the site. You'll gain the ability to rate the reselling and recycling services on our site so that you and other users can continually find the best deals out there. We consider user ratings to be an absolutely critical facet of our site, so we encourage our users to leave meaningful reviews for the services they encounter.

Registering also allows you to take advantage of other advanced features that will be released in the near future. As a registered user, you will soon be able to track your environmental impact through your activity on the site. In addition, you will have the ability to collect "karma points" for your good deeds, which can then be redeemed for discounts on new gadgets!
